Tod Purcell was either born in a crossfire hurricane or Connecticut, depending on his mood when asked. He started playing in bands at the age of 13 and, by the 70’s, found himself touring Southern Europe on an expired visa, partnered up with the Spanish psychedelic guitar legend Gualberto Garcia Perez. You can hear Tod’s vocals and trusty 12-string on Gualberto’s "A La Vida, Al Dolor" album from 1975. According to legend, a producer once interrupted a recording session to offer Tod a chance at becoming the “John Denver of Europe.” Tod replied with a few choice words, not all of them fit for broadcast, and walked out the door.
With impending fatherhood back in the States and a steady supply of immigration hassles, Tod left Europe behind just as his former band was gaining notoriety. By the 80’s he was performing up and down the Eastern seaboard as a founding member of Old #7. The band forecasted the blend of cowboy, country & western, Irish traditional, folk, and country/rock music that is Tod’s signature sound today.
